When Rain Falls by Tyora Moody

When Rain FallsWhen Rain Falls by Tyora Moody

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When Rain Falls draws you in with the prologue, so bold, fierce and suspenseful bit to chew. You are left wondering who is the 12 year old girl and why she's in the cop car crying out to her Mama.

Candace Johnson is a widow. Detective Frank Johnson was her protector and hero even when she still feared her childhood bogeyman. The man on the chase of a sudden murder and may be connected to her husband's two-year ago death, Detective Darnell Jackson divorced, dog owner, and loves his job but hates the stress of the job itself. Detective Steven Brunson, former partner of Frank Johnson, hardly works on the case with Det. Jackson. He's a hardball that seems like a know-it-all.

The story denotes that the recent murder of a prominent defense lawyer, Pamela Coleman, (daughter of Judge Bill Coleman--well-known judge with prestige in the community) is a crime of passion. Still waiting to see how the loose ends tie together and connect the dots. I have some primary suspects on my list aside from what is justified in the novel. I still love to see how this crime of passion plays out also the prologue.

Dream moment in the book on page 204, where it discussed that Candace accepted Christ at an early age of life but her faith was shaky at times yet she retained and remained at the very foundation of her salvation. We are saved by faith through the grace of God, and we all tumble and stumble in our walk as believers based on the hardships, grief, and other distractions that come in our way to get us off-course but we do not have to stay there!

Tyora Moody is a blessed talent who spurred a Christian Romance Suspense novel and now has a devoted fan to read/review the Victory Gospel Series. Her writing style is superb, splendid, and takes the reader on a spectacular journey to see what is unleashed.

Desire at Will Winner!

My desire for my life is to be a better mother, sister, and future wife. To believe in what I have inside of me and trust in it. I desire so much for my children to be proud of the woman they see that I have grown into. I want them to be proud of my accomplishments and the fact that I never gave up. I know that with God on my side and as my strength, I will be able to be someone they want to emulate. God has instilled many gifts inside me and with His blessing; I will be able to provide a future for my family long after I'm gone. I don't want them to struggle the way I did and my mother did.

To achieve this, I know by having a closer relationship with my Lord must take place. He is the only one that can heal the scars and the storms in my life. To be a role model to those around me, and be able to show them that your past doesn't have to determine your future. You can start in the mud but crawl out and be washed clean and stand in the light.

Review Summary:

The story starts in 1918 while Sergeant Tanner is in battle (World War I), and later in the current day meets the main character Honey Lamb. Honey doesn’t know God but has been in a church service and wonders what the excitement is all about—salvation. Honey’s mother allows her daughter to be with her male friends because they have money. (Personal note): I shook my head, wondering what mother does this to their daughter (or child at all), unless she is on drugs. However, the mother admits she is not a woman or a mother which I call a ‘monster’ and only to meet her own selfish needs—greed (money). Then, Honey feels it is a conspiracy that all her contacts are coming to Jesus—getting saved, could God be seeking her soul too? The ending of the story is the most powerful portion of the novel: Jesus is the vine, you are the branches. We also have to know our heredity and genealogy cause you to miss what He has for you—we cannot deny the blood that flows through our veins, nor the bloodline we come from, but with Jesus’ BLOOD we are healed, delivered, and sanctified (or saved).

Dream Moment(s): “We loved each other completely…revealed the internal war that was waging because of that love (page 40).” We all battle an internal war within ourselves, and some are not open to love based on our past memories of how love was administered or practiced. Moreover, we have to give ourselves away and surrender to love, and be willing to love wholeheartedly—God is love. Besides the emotional drama, spiritual roller coaster for Honey Lamb, there is also comic relief and crossing my fingers for a fulfilling ending.

Dream Disaster (Nightmare(s)): Early readings, the writer keeps you intrigued except I felt I was going in circles and waiting for the story to reveal itself; guess Honey Lamb is also going in circles with her personal and emotional issues.

Dream 4 More (Keep us Dreaming or Begging for more): Reliving the romantic reunion, or even past memories of love but Honey allowed the relationship to go numb because of her past love experiences with her mother, difficult to love her husband Mason. Therefore, Mason mentioned that he may be unable to “forgive and forget” and I truly believe if we forgive—we can forget. In other words, God forgives our sins and doesn’t remember it (gone forever); therefore, He can only forgive us if we forgive those who have trespass us. So, if we forgive, we should not prolong, hold on to it, or keep mentioning the things we have forgiven. We also need to break generational curses such as hurt, betrayal, violence, and abuse to name a few. We do not realize our actions can mess up our future generation or legacy because of your mishaps, carry the sins into our relationships (even children and their children), and need to break the cycle by the BLOOD of Jesus Christ (please see p. 168).

Review Summary:

Alexander Love is an attorney seeking to make partner at a law firm but also noted for his stellar performance in the courtroom, winning cases. He is a lover’s man besides a reserved and daring man but serious dating is not on his list until he meets Ami’s best friend and roomie, Jada Whitman. Their body language says it all—reaction, relation, romance with a magnetic attraction, connection, and chemistry that is hard to ignore. This rarely happens in early relationships or at all.

Dream Moment(s): “Her head was telling her one thing, her heart another, and her history something completely different (page 51).” For some reason, this line had captivated me into the story and wanted Jada to take me there and share exactly what was on her mind, heart, and past history of which made her feel that her relationships were not healthy and doomed for failure. Amore nibbles us in bit by bit when we read that Jada lost her family by a car accident unplanned to how she doesn’t know how to receive or give love.

Dream Disaster (Nightmare(s)): There was an editor mentioned on the copyright page; however, there were typographical errors that were hard to dismiss (e.g. page 5 Brian and a paragraph later becomes Brain) and easy proofreading errors that could have easily been corrected. There are a few grammatical issues too. Yet, I was able to continue reading and some highlights in the Amore’s writing style.

More importantly, it was hard to lock the reader in the fairytale of love at first site with numerous characters and mention of their careers (which is great to see them accomplish such studious and successful careers) immediately in the first chapter, where the reader easily gets bored or loses track of the actual plot of the story. It was unnecessary and a development editor would have omitted these passages to keep the flow of the story. It was irrelevant and forgets who the main characters are: Alex and Jada including secondary characters. There is a way that they could have been introduced and brief description but would have been best to remove them. However, I did find myself going back to the first chapter when I saw Sean or other cousins introduced to see their careers or role in the story.

Dream 4 More (Keep us Dreaming or Begging for more): To wonder if this sudden romance between Alexander and Jada is going to lead to anything promising, especially since it starts off as a goo-goo eye, premature romance and Alex does what some men do—buy flowers. Waiting for the “It” Factor. Definitely the romance comes alive midway of the novel.

Bruthas by JL Whitehead

Title: Bruthas

Author: JL Whitehead

Publisher: Four Brothers Publication

Release date (or anticipated release): 8/2/2011

ISBN: 9780983801009

ASIN (if applicable):

Ebook ISBN:

Specs: 6x9, 397 pages

Website (optional):

Category: Urban Fiction

Review Summary:

JL Whitehead writes a story not only about brothers, but family relationships and the life journey's they choose and sometimes their choices need to change. Nate has taken the wrong path in comparison to his brothers especially Jai, who works at a law firm, in a relationship with Taylor, and has a son, Joshua. Nate's reality is to make quick cash on the streets, hustling and bustling instead of working a 9 to 5. He desires the finer things in life but not willing to work hard for it. His mother, Thandi at sixty-three wants to best for her three sons and loves the bonding of family and willing to do what it takes to keep them united. Her other son, Ryan, is doted as the gay brother/son that Nate refuses to accept his lifestyle. However, Ryan still believes in God but unable to find a male companion who shares the same interests and able to love on all levels. Tamra is Ryan's closest friend on so many levels, and wants the best for her dear co-worker and friend.

Dream Moment(s): The author emphasizes some valid lessons and points on page 102-105, where some of us don't fit the profile and love doesn't hurt (in reference to character Maya, and Trenace is trying to tell her). We may not fit the profile but something came in our way to change our current status such as background, upbringing, and self-esteem, searching for love in all the wrong places, and not knowing our worth.

Dream Disaster (Nightmare(s)): There are numerous characters to keep up with but the pace isn't slow nor rushed and written so eloquently. The author can be also mindful of the tenses used. There was another thing that caught my attention on page 87 states "2011 Lincoln Navigator" was the new car offered to Nate and on page 199 reads "SUV" and this type of car is considered a truck than a SUV. Some of the typesetting put the words closely knitted together (e.g. diningroom and p.122 are some examples). "Descent" should be "descend" on page 127. These minor errors don't deter you from the overall novel.

Dream 4 More (Keep us Dreaming): This book reads more than just Urban Fiction, also has the element of Suspense and sprinkle of Mystery. The reader is able to see who the murder/killer is but other characters are trying to figure out who it is responsible for these sporadic murders. Whitehead also takes us into the mindset, emotions or feelings of the characters, and sets up the scene nicely in most aspects of the novel. This is not just another Urban-street lit book, it captivates the reader into the dark side of the streets known as the "Block" and the horrid side of a crack head with a gory-like feel to it.

Dream 4 More Reviews received the novel "Bruthas" from the author for a book review.

Cynthia Patterson's Review [Goodreads Self-Published Author Group]

In the introduction, the author explains to women why we are always changing our degree plans, careers, hairstyles, etc. is because we are seeking affirmation and praise. Moreover, we strive for love, security, protection, and assurance. Once a woman finds her divine purpose, this is how she becomes Satan's target and enemy. We are constantly masking our feelings and wearing blinders to how we truly should view things going in our lives. We have to discover them, unleash the possibilities, and dreams God has put inside each and every one of us once we tap into the Source (and others to surrender their lives to Christ, who are not saved). Overall, we will face challenges and consequences, "it will/had happen(ed)" but don't let it stop us from seeking God for solutions.

Biblical passages that stuck with me: "your faith has saved you" (Matthew 9:22); "your faith has healed you" (Mark 5:34). Do we stand on our faith that can save you, heal you, and shows that you believe beyond sight. There are also inspirational quotes per each chapter.

"Your relationship with your earthly father would be used as a blueprint in forming your relationship with God" (page 12). Our fathers need to stand up to the plate be leaders, head of the household, and modeling what a godly husband should look like for his daughters as well as be a person to look up to for his sons. I love this line too, "He is in the salvation business, not the satisfaction business" (page 29). "You are created by design. God does not call only the qualified, He qualifies all those for whom He calls" (page 71).

She shares insightful, well-researched, and questions to arise the reader with some biblical stories/concepts to see how other women were hurt, bleeding, or seeking help from isolation, depression, and other disruptive behaviors that are ungodly. When she shared the story about Tamar, who was violated sexually by her brother Amnon and to keep hidden by her other brother Absalom, as her father and King David never punished his son and renewed her honor. I cannot imagine all those years she was isolated, never married, or bore a heir because of losing her virginity of which was the most disgraceful thing in the Old Testament.

Moreover, we need to follow Naomi's action, decisive faith, where we make the decision to get ourselves together! We receive a word from God and take a step of faith towards our destiny. Step in position and stop allowing things to block the blessings. Shift your focus. Start living a life of expectancy.

Other resourceful books: "Every Woman in the Bible" (I have a copy somewhere); "Discovering God's Purpose for your Life" and other books in the back of the book. Additionally, after each chapter is "Discovery Questions" to reflect on your own issues in relation to the concept delivered in each chapter.

*I hope to someday get this author and minister on my online ministry radio program: DYRP Midnight Hour (http://dreamyourreality.webs.com).

*Received a copy from the author for a book review in the Goodreads Self-Published Authors Group.

Review Summary:

Kalina Denise Harris has dreams of meeting a wealthy man who will sweep her off her feet. This seems to be the fantasy-fairytale dream for most single young women. In the opening chapter, “word is our bond” was a valuable lesson taught between father and daughter’s morning talk. Sometimes, we are willing to throw our own dreams and happiness away to please someone else to make them happy. The once happy, perfect home clashes before Kalina’s eyes, and discovers her only friend, Mandy, married and pregnant. She was hoping her only friend would also go to college too. Later, she has nowhere but to her aunt’s house in Philadelphia. This situation didn’t last very long. No longer a country girl with a drawl, has to learn the streets and runs into people who knew her mother and aunt—small world. Her naïve upbringing surely changes after two years of being under the household of Jordan living with his six grandsons by his son, Billy.

This debut novel is a splendid read, beautifully written and delicately told with such horrid incidents flash on the pages once an adulterous affair goes berserk leaving the seventeen-year-old Kalina in a hopeless state. Dreams shattered in a tickling of an eye. Moreover, this story had twists and turns and tragic events I was not looking to bump into. The author also wrote a story that wasn’t predictable and hoped for a meaningful ending. I hope this author writes more entertaining and edgy stories because she has a fan!

Lesson: Be careful what you do to others, for you will reap what you sow.

Who are you bringing on the dream journey with you, if any?

Rahiem Brooks' Con Test:Double Life Review

Con TestCon Test by Rahiem Brooks

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The author (Rahiem Brooks) sets up the scene in the first chapter, a scene for disaster about to happen at Wachovia Bank, where a cunning robbery takes place right in the teller’s face without any fingerprints to leave a trail behind. Justice Lorenzo had a photographic memory and good with numbers for his line of dirty work. He’s linked to Loss Prevention for his Identity Theft crimes, but nothing can stick because no fingerprints, surveillance cameras recycle their tapes every few months and his crime happened several months back, and he’s on a roll without a trace. He’s learned the system after doing this crime for twenty-four years.

On the other hand, William Fortune points out some writing issues and choices that authors have to make because their publishers are not necessarily into a good story but one that is salable.

There are some parts of the story that are action-packed, brilliantly written and jovial, as we gather into William’s character—some parts are a tad bit slow but cleverly linking the pieces together with the fast-lane, action-thriller, identity theft criminal known as Justice (JL). We have good boy versus bad boy. We see a story weaved into a fictional story that holds some truth because his buddy feeds it to him. The creative side of the author, Rahiem Brooks, he intertwines the story within a story to see the real story of his characters as the reader waits for the mystery of the story to unleash.

don't let loose of your dreams
no matter how dim it seems
you can change gears
after observing over the years
God-given gifts are given
how are you livin'
are you sharing your dream with others
that stemmed from our fathers and mothers
continue to soar for more
that's why we are called Dream 4 More

Amanda's Poor Self-Image by Geraldine Shaheed

Amanda's Poor Self-Image: How to Have a Good Self-ImageAmanda's Poor Self-Image: How to Have a Good Self-Image by Geraldine M. Shaheed

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Geraldine Shaheed delivers a well-received and much needed book for our children on self-esteem, self-identity, and how they view themselves (self-image). The artwork by Amanda Esther Aquino is exceptional and easily captured my curiosity without reading the words; it displayed images that children can relate to when facing ridicule, peers teasing them, and learning about the beauty within that will showcase on the outside (physical). The important lesson taught was that our elders (adults) are to instruct and inform the young (children) about whom they are, purpose, and meaning in life. They are precious in Yahweh’s sight. Human life is one of the most beautiful creations on this Earth and we are pleasing to our Creator. How can someone learn the true meanings of “love” if they do not feel loved? The author touches on beauty, love, and esteem are some characteristics that we need to live beyond the cruel words said by our peers, family members, and classmates. We reverse negative views and concepts to positive in which starts from within. What we have bottled inside will come out of our mouths and see displayed in our actions and physical expressions.

This book target audience is for 4-8 years old; however, I can see 8-10 year old children reading and clearly understanding the meaning of the book. I highly recommend this book for elementary schools, educators, and children ministries to share as a group and discuss the importance of self-image, self-identity, and self-esteem that our children face on a regular basis, also who they are in Christ.

You can get a copy of the book from the author at freedomandvictory@att.net. $10.00/copy.

Friends 2 Lovers Review

Friends 2 LoversFriends 2 Lovers by Jonathan Anthony Burkett

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In this book, there are some major issues and challenges covered inside such as Troy, 20-year-old, high school student (which he is nearly passed the age limit of 21 or number of years to be in school versus obtaining his GED); parents rely on Claude, 17-year-old senior to graduate and be the successful one of the family; and how family’s secrets lead to rivalries between the next generation. Troy Daniel is the bad boy; some would view as a split-image of his father’s past behaviors growing up at his age. He is willing to lie down his life if anything ever happens to his brother, Claude. Claude cares deeply for his best friend, Kelly, who is unable at first to see beyond their friendship. Their father, Charles, even hides the fight that broke-out between Stanley and his son, Robert, because Stan rammed into his BMW. This was so immature and childish for men to fight over a car bump, when they could have handled this in a more civilized manner such as call the police, report the accident, and contact their insurance providers. This fight between grown men, later involved their children too. We have to be mindful of our actions and responses since it also has a bearing on our offspring (children). I hope the author was trying to point this out in the book as well.

Overall, this book exemplifies a teenage love affair that displays love in words, expression, and poetry but love takes action as Kelly’s mother, Latoya, mentioned in the reading (Show Me motto). In the earlier readings, we see friends become lovers or friends-with-benefits and Claude admits that he loves Kelly like family (sister). However, we see love without commitment and Claude prefers to remain friends and not lose their close-relationship but making love is on a deeper level than just friends, or sister-like relationship he expressed to Latoya. Later, he can’t deny no matter how hard he tries that he has to be with his first love.

This book would be great for older teens (15-19). It was well-written as far as descriptive, some characters sounded similar and had to re-read on some parts to make sure who was speaking, and very proper-speaking characters versus Ebonics or slang with some teenagers today. Even great writers/authors are still learning the differences between ‘showing and not telling’ and read many authors works in some capacity still tell us the story in their narrative voices or descriptions. As an author too, I still work on this notion in my fiction writings. This book was over 350 pages, which the college life was slow and could have been written shorter to keep the grips of the reader (or eliminated); easily could have been 250 pages or less.

Encouraging Words from "Peace from Broken Pieces"

Iyanla Vanzant teaches so many life lessons by sharing her own experiences in her latest book, "Peace from Broken Pieces" and will share some that derived from the book during a reading. I have not completed it, but want to share some of these passages (author's paraphrased).

"realized...the right place, the right time, doing the wrong thing." p. 106. How many of us feel that we have divine connections such as meeting the right people, to get us on the right path, and at the right time but feel something is missing? I honed on this passage since I feel like I did all the right things, at the right place, and at the right time but feel maybe I chose the wrong career path. I went to college when there were scholarships available; when school was not as expensive as it is today and met the right people to do what I needed to do. But some will say, due to my unemployment recessions that maybe I chose the wrong field. However, I feel God will direct our path when we seek Him in the decision-making process and this is what I've been doing with every step I've taken. Yet, at other times, I did things that appeared good and felt right. We need to quit basing on our emotions and seek YHWH. Therefore, I do not regret anything that I've done but seek YHWH for the dreams and visions for my life. My Pastor Lori Wilke spoke last night (Wednesday, February 23rd in last School of Ministry session) that God will put pictures (or dreams and visions) in our minds. We have to be mindful whether we allow negative or positive images in our minds.

Another valuable lesson that I took from the book so far, she followed pattens also an extension from family curses or generational that passed in her lineage too. She also had a pattern in relationships: meet a man, sleep with a man, fall in love with that man, and get dissed by the man. She was able to learn from these transitions and failed relationships and finally walked into her calling or destiny for life. We can all think about the cycles we keep following and break those negative patterns. We have to get to the root of the problem.

Moreover, she mentions about 'contaminating words' can make us feel like we are never good enough. She compared herself to spiritual leaders who were successful when she was not at the time. We should not compare ourselves to others (2 Cor. 10:12). We have to quit comparing to their livelihood, public acclaim, status, experience, education, and so forth. I've even done the same thing when YHWH told me to write "The Day Begins with Christ" where I looked at my credibility and authority such as theology degrees, ministry background (experience), and so forth but God knew I could do so because He said so. We need to stop comparing and competing and meeting God where He is and know that we are the qualified vessels to complete the goal He assigned us to accomplish.

For her career path, she was busy, classes filled when she done workshops, but was still broke. I can relate to this notion when I've been on radio, now TV, and other online appearances but not a book sale or business is very slow. Yet, I am busy but broke. This is not in the equation. Or as we say, "It doesn't add up." Therefore, Iyanla speaks on page 115 that she loved what she did and a time of prosperity would come. How many of us said this line too! My time will come. She even opened to a broader audience, not just black women and men as she previous did. She made so many accomplishments from a welfare mom to completing law school and then doctoral degree in Religion, from writing her books to become a popular speaker-teacher with great cash advances, and still didn't feel complete.

"Your personal lie circulates throughout your entire being and determines how you move." p. 117 She explains how we have to look at our internal landscape (that I would say "internal makeup") which are our perceptions and misconceptions about life to fit in the scheme of things. What is our 'core' beliefs? What are we speaking aloud? We can either speak life or death in our situations. As my Pastor Lori Wilke said in Wednesday service, we speak curses by the words we say. We need to stop speaking negative things (e.g. I can't find work or can't get a job, no one will hire me, I will never amount to anything, I will never be successful, or I'm stupid to let this happen again). Check your mouth: think before you speak! I have been practicing this lately too. I've also been speaking the promising scriptures to keep pressing through the hardships. "God will supply all my needs." "He will not forsake me or leave me." "He will direct my path." These are some examples to stay encouraged! What are you saying....or keep playing with your destiny.

Blogging for Marketing and PR

Social Media provides the way people share ideas, content, thoughts, and relationship online. Social media differs from so-called "mainstream media" anyone can create, comment on, add social media content. Text, audio, video, images, and comments. Blogs, wikis, photo sharing, etc. (p. 38)

4 Uses of Blogs for Marketing and PR
1. Easily monitor--what people say about you, market you who you sell to, organization, and products
2. Participate in conversations by commenting on blogs
3. Work with bloggers who write about you industry, company, or products
4. Share those conversations by creating and writing your own blog

Barack Obama, our 44th President, had a successful "new marketer" in history. We need to study his campaign tactics to adapt ideas for business.
*Digital tools and technologies
*55% adults, 74% Internet users (Smith's report)
*45% wired Americans watched videos online politics/election. Young adults 18-29 years old watched online political videos this election cycle.
*33% Internet users shared digital political content with others
*52% social networking profile used their social network site for political purposes

^focus on buyers personas
^don't underestimate the importance of social media and new rules of marketing and PR
^clearly and simply articulate what you want people to believe
^don't obsess over the competition
^put your fans first
^don't interrupt your buyers
^negativity doesn't sell
^get your customers to talk about you
^take time for your family

Stick to your Plan: on the Web, you are what you publish.
(p. 135-139, author paraphrased)

Samara King Pre-Interview Questions

Dream 4 More Pre-Interview Questions to get to know Samara King:
1. What inspired you to write this book?
After reading an article online about several prisoners who were being released after serving years in prison for crimes they didn’t commit, I begin to wonder how one would regain their life and love.
2. Share one of your dreams and how are you putting forth effort to make it a reality.
One of my dreams is to pursue my own business in the literary world. I’m currently doing that with the creation of the SK MINIs novella imprint of which Hot to the Touch is the premiere release and the establishment of Samara King Books. Touching people with my words is one of the legacies I want to leave behind one day and a daily goal as well.
3. Tell us 4 things that people would love to know about you (we don’t already know).
Hmmm, well. I love to dance.
My mother tells me I was born with red hair and that she named me after some character from a Western (not believing the later statement Mom.)
I love making characters real to the point I could carry conversation.
One of the greatest influences of my life was my maternal grandmother.
4. Name your future plans and how you’re building on that dream.
My future plans evolve around building more titles under Samara King Books, working on a script, seminars that will uplift women under the SK MINIs project as well as classes. I’ll also be offering writing workshops in liaison with Editor-Author Shonell Bacon under our joint venture, 2 Divas 2 Dimes.
5. Who are you bringing on the dream journey with you, if any?
My loved ones definitely. I do not think you can venture into a dream without some support from those closest to you in some respects.
6. Who are you modeling after or use as a living example to keep you accomplishing your writing talent?
There are many authors that I admire, but I really love tailoring my path to my own creativity. It ensures realness and truth.
7. Share in brief your writing process (e.g. time of hour you write, best time of the day or night, setbacks or disappointments, and obstacles to undergo as an author).
My writing practices vary from early morning writing sessions to evening time. It just depends on the project, the tone, the characters and the general flow of the story I’m trying to convey. There are times when I have to step away from the act of writing and in those times, I design, read, observe and learn. It’s all part of my writing process I think and it extends outside banging the keys of my laptop. Setbacks and disappointments are a part of life, in writing it is no different. Taking one day at a time and learning – sometimes ‘re-learning’ to enjoy the writing process is often needed.
8. What advice do you have for your readers and/or other authors? Nurturing your muse is a very important element in the writing journey. Switching what doesn’t work and trying alternate or various creative paths help a lot. It never hurts to shake up your creative process every now and then.

I Am Royalty, Volume 1

I Am Royalty: Profiles In Black History (Volume 1)I Am Royalty: Profiles In Black History by Seeing Growth

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Seeing Growth (Emmanuel Brown) has published, “I Am Royalty,” for the younger generation to have role models from diverse backgrounds and walks of life to showcase their life examples as a way to promote unity among our communities. This is an autobiographical profile of 38 Black Americans, both men and women, as a positive alternative to influence and encourage our young people that they can thrive and soar with their dreams and goals too. Moreover, these are inspirational stories and bios of heroes of today, not of tomorrow (the past) and there is still hope for our future.

I was also honored to share my profile, bio, and achievements I have accomplished thus far.

We need to get these books to our youth in our communities; please play your part and have a heart to get a copy to share with the teens in schools, churches, and youth programs. We hope this book will empower our youth to become who they are destined to be.

The Boy with Stripes by Rev. Eddie Wiggins

The Boy with StripesThe Boy with Stripes by Rev. Eddie Wiggins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Boy with Stripes is a memoir about Eddie Wiggins who once felt unloved, unwanted, physically and verbally abused, and lack of identity. He was adopted at the tender age of two years old to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wiggins and born in Riverside, CA during the 1950s. He never truly knows his heritage or race and when he asked his Mom, he never wanted to know since it “hurt too badly.” She was an educator and student counselor, yet abused her adopted son. She beat him so badly until blood splashed out and welts marked his body, whether wet or dry, with a razor strop used at barber shops to sharpen their razor blades. His adopted father, known as Dad, also was adopted except by a white family. He was a famous African-American surgeon and physician, but amazingly was unaware of the abuse for a number of years that was forced on his son-Eddie. When they had a son and daughter, they were not abused and his mom refused to allow Eddie to play or touch even his younger sister.

There were times that Eddie prayed to God to kill his mother before he ended up dead. He watched shows like Brady Bunch and wished his life could be like that (fantasy) but his reality was abuse. Anyone who witnessed or he told about the abuse (e.g. coach and Dad), no one was able to do anything to her. He knew as a young child that he would not follow his father’s footsteps as a doctor since he hated the sight of blood, but God had another plan for his life. He’s a conqueror and survived the years of physical abuse, verbal abuse of not feeling loved or wanted, and classified as “incorrigible” to be awarded to the mental hospital because of his mother’s evil plan to get him out of the household. He fought to get out of the mental ward but his mom refused to take him back after he passed all the tests to prove he was not incorrigible. In the midst, he met a great friend and worker that were for his best interest. He learned that he was also likable and loved, when he never felt or learned this before while living in the home with his mom.

He also shares his life experiences during childhood up to high school, and later will share his other experiences in future memoirs. He will open the reader’s eyes to other horrifying truths where you start to wonder is there any hope, faith, and love. He didn’t know God until he met Doris and her family to open his heart, but still could not see or know this Spirit of God until he discovers who he is in Christ.

Ann M. Hampton's What My Heart Desires (Book Review)

What My Heart DesiresWhat My Heart Desires by Ann M Hampton

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Ann Hampton’s first novel, “What my Heart Desires” opens up with Tracy Moore who has a whirlwind relationship with a married man to a widowed man. She first chooses the married man to meet her sexual desires. Tracy confuses sex for love, which many women do. When Troy, Richard’s best friend, steps into the picture, she can’t see what’s good for her, only what’s good for the moment. Eventually, Tracy wakes up and discovers what true love is.

Overall, this fiction novel is short, learn about the importance of relationships, and “jealous love” is not real love. This book covers deceit, lies, and betrayal among the parties involved and we have to be careful who we choose to love and what are their alternative motives. There are important life lessons on “respect” and “love” that should be reciprocal of what you have to offer in relationships. In addition, the author shows us that women love or fall too easily for the men they are sexing. With some sexual addictions, there can be a craved-raged pervert lurking among us once we are no longer involved with them.

*There were minor typographical and editing issues noticed in the novel but should not deter you from the actual lessons demonstrated in the book.

Those who read 100 or more books in one-year will win goodies and box of books. We require you to join the site and become a member to get updates.

If you want to share your life goals, we love to know. More importantly, we want to see the list of book you've read. You are also welcome to review our 2009-2010 books reviewed to add to your list or review the BOM we've done too. This list is on our Facebook Groups: Dream 4 More Firm and Dream 4 More Reviews. Welcome to participate on there too.

You can save your information in WORD, EXCEL, or somewhere that later you can submit in the list to us via email at dream4moreradio@gmail.com to read on the air our dream winner. Those who participated, we'll see if we can send you a small gift for your efforts.

Dream 4 More wants to see who can take the challenge starting Jan. 1, 2011 until December 31st to write your 100 life goals and read at least 100 books from new and seasoned authors and stem from any type of genre, author, and such.

Write the title of the book, author's name, and/or year the book was published. Or you can share here if you like. I'm reviewing my 100 life goals written in 2009 and may renew, refocus, and restore one for 2011. Some goals I see I'm still pursuing on the list. Can you dream 4 more?

We'll also set aside some books we receive and win a box of books and other goodies by the end of the year to start your New Year. We'll add this to our Forums if you like to join and keep track of it there to see and view.

www.dream4more.webs.com on Forums "Contests and Wins" only open to members who are signed in their accounts. Join our Membership to keep up with the updates.

Dream 4 More,

Adrienna!
