Deondriea Cantrice Review

Rhythm Can't Keep Time: Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough. Deondriea Cantrice. GSH Publishing. $15.00 (U.S.)/$20.00 (Canada). Rating: 5. Dream 4 More Rating: Wooed Us.

It is funny how time flies when your having fun, as we get inside the emotions of Sheridyn while she is getting-to-know Sterling. Besides the maybe-lies and drunk dates, Sheridyn has a sexual attraction for a fine black brother--Sterling. She is also getting over a first love, Rod, and wonder if Sterling is the real-deal, lovy-dovy, or just a rebound.

We see many women that are in-and-out of relationships. Deondriea weaved a relationship rendezvous until love finds you. It may not be the person you spent the most time with and with the hopes of being the one. There are some underlining subliminal messages too. This is not your ordinary romance book, it takes you into the mindset (or emotions) of most relationships today in a fiction-story piece.

I love these poetic lines from the book, "People can only love to the capacity at which they know, understand, or experience. Love is not a scale of orgasmic screams. Distinct rhythm, but there are only so many beats to a measure. Melodies are heartfelt and reach the soul, but every song has a timeless rhythm. Dance partners change as dances fade away because partners aren't promised, but the cadence of true love last forever." How deep is your love?

Win a Future Copy of God is in the Equation

Answer these seven question and bonus is optional to be qualified for winning a copy of "God is in the Equation" in hopes to be released in Fall/Winter of 2010. I am currently finishing up the nonfiction book and seeking a publisher. If you know of any publishers to submit for a nonfiction/spiritual book, I am open to suggestion to be emailed to adriennaturner@earthlink.net. After answering the seven questions, please include your name and email to contact you directly if you are a chosen winner by May 2010.

Bonus: What does "God in the Equation" means to you?

1. Preparation: What are you doing to prepare for God's purpose?
2. Study: What concepts or strategies are you doing to achieve your goals to meet God's plan? Faith + Focus= Achieved Results
3. Adding: Who are you adding in your network or circle of friends--these divine connections to achieve God's ultimate purpose?
4. Subtracting: What are some things you have to eradicate, remove, or omit from your life to remain on God's mission for your life?
5. Multiply: What does "expand" or "multiply" your territory means to you? God said, "to multiply and be fruitful".
6. Division: There are tests, obstacles, and distractions put in your path to get you off-course. Name some of these distractions or things to divide us from the path God has set for us.
7. Equation: What is in your equation?

The three contestants who are chosen by May 1, 2010 will receive an email confirmation, will have a chance for their quotes to be posted in the upcoming novel with permission (and name will be added to the book), and receive a copy once the book has been published and released to the winners.

Is God in your equation?

Review is in: Lama Milkweed Augustine, Ph.D

My Father, My Nazi by Lama Milkweed Augustine, PhD. Jones Harvest Publishing. 2009. $20.00. Rating: 5 stars. Dream 4 More Rating: Wooed Us!

My Father, My Nazi is an enriching and terrifying story to read. How can a man's loyalty to serve "beloved Fuhrer" be as sincere as it is to his family?

Lama Milkweed takes you inside of the mindset of Gerd Guggenheim, a Nazi regime, who serves under Adolf Hitler in Berlinisch (Berlin). Hitler plans to create a stronger Germany, finding loyal SS bodyguards to abide to his horrendous schemes. Gerd was a follower and enforcer under Hitler's laws since the age of 19 and married Greta at 16, because she was with child. This also was a time during National Socialism (Nazism), German political movement in 1920 accompanied by the National Socialist German Workers Party. We, the readers, see how these young men were enchanted under the supremacy of Adolf Hitler, "beloved Fuhrer".

Lama outlines the story of a dedicated-loyal Nazi that takes his family from the ruler-ship under Hitler, to relocate to America, because he could not handle the atrocities forced to perform and witnessed after the lines of his confession. We later see Gerd suffer from what most militant soldiers experience is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, where he was unable to see his realities vs. past war tactics when he was under Hitler's leadership. I was nearly in tears to see how Gerd was willing to take his own life because of his failures. We can relate to this notion whether we are ex-militants or not, with self-worth removed from our very souls--we feel useless and incapable beings to a point of suffering from suicidal thoughts. These historical accounts reads like a documentary-story.

If you like to read historical events and people, autobiographical accounts, and true stories, you will be pleased with this story.

Review: Monique Mensah

Vivid detail and an equally titillating plot make ‘Who is He to You’ an absolute page turner. Monique D. Mensah’s writing is literary awesomeness. The story arouses a multitude of emotions as the lives of three ladies are intimately revealed, ultimately colliding to meet an unexpected end.

Vanessa Richardson: Love Found Me

Review is In:

series,inspirational suspense fiction,Vanessa Richardson,GSH Publishing

Love Found Me by Vanessa Richardson, GSH Publishing, 12/19/09, $15.00. Rating: 5. Dream 4 More Rating: Wooed Us.

Vanessa Richardson delivers an electrifying, undeniable love story between two people who do not believe it is happening immediately before their very eyes and their hearts beating at a rapid rate. Their first encounter speaks for itself.

We first meet Michael and his twin brother, Bryan, and see their agape love for one another regardless of their different lifestyles, paths, and personalities. Then, we see Shelia Lawton, who does not want to go back in the house of God with her best friend and colleague Rayna Peterson. These ladies met at college and remained friends since. We see Rayna go from graduating in Political Science/Pre-law major to wanting to become partner at Hudson, Fist, and Hudson law firm. Shelia majored in Sociology is now working as a Domestic Violence Counselor.

Vanessa captures the readers attention from the Prologue, where you do not want to stop reading and complete in one-sitting. I enjoyed reading every character in the book, also seeing love electrifying over the emotions and souls of the characters--where I can picture them in my mind as if it is a TV series on Lifetime. I cannot wait for the sequel. This is a must-read, especially if you love inspirational-suspense (or Christian Fiction, Contemporary Romance).

Panel Discussion on Dream4More

Please tell us as authors what you expect from publishers. Publishers share what you expect from authors.

Why are there competitive spirits among AA authors? Is it only our ethnic group? Does this happen among other authors, genres, or events?

Does it seem like larger published authors are stand-offish, arrogant or mean to those who are starting out with small/independent publishers,or self published authors?

We have other panel discussion for this event. You are welcome to post your comments and suggestions. We will be live on BTR at Dream4More:www.blogtalkradio.com/dream4more at 5:00 PM Central Time. Come join us on this intellectual discussion on Sunday, December 20th.Call in number 347-989-0702. chat room is available while online too.

We are also accepting Dream Interviews that are posted on the site and blogspot! Virtual Blog Tours are welcomed too! For Virtual Blog Tour sponsors and founders, we require a book for review.

Virtual Interview Tour: C. Alease

C. Alease Interview Q&A:

Photobucket

11-17-09

1. What inspired you to write or moved you to begin writing? My Father in heaven inspired me to write The Gatekeeper. Although I’ve been writing since I was five years old, and always loved to write, I could never seem to focus long enough to write more than a couple of paragraphs at a time. I have an extremely vivid imagination, and I always had plenty stories that I would share with friends and coworkers. I believe that having to write long papers for college, researching and finally capturing my thoughts on paper made me realize that I could actually write more than business memos and letters with impact.

2. What are some major obstacles you had to overcome as an author or writer? What do you hope to accomplish as an author and with your book. I didn’t go into this experience blindly. I prayed the same prayer that I prayed when I decided to go back to school. I asked my Father to remove all of the barriers, even the ones that I would place in front of myself in order to accomplish my goal of completing The Gatekeeper. The only obstacle in front of me that I have to move aside is the prejudice that is applied to self-publishers and inde-novelists today by the traditional publishing and literary industry. Vanity is not why I wrote The Gatekeeper. I wrote it to entertain readers as well as to bring to the light one of the most pervasive secrets in African American society; that of mental illness.
3. How valuable is a professional editor? Do you need one? A professional editor is paramount to the success of a book. One of the stigmas associated with inde-authors is the lack of “polish,” so to speak. It is one thing to have a literary voice, but if you don’t know how to translate those words in your head to the paper following proper grammatical rules and punctuation, have difficulty in consistency in the story, and all of the important things that a professional editor can add to your book, then it won’t be good enough to read and it won’t sell.
4. Is it beneficial for a writer to also be an avid reader? Why? This question is tricky. It is vitally important to read. We need to read every day, and most do; menus, road signs, business-related periodicals, technical journals; the list goes on and on. Reading is a part of our lives. I am a staunch advocate for the fundamental importance of reading. However, the question is, is it beneficial for a writer to also be an avid reader. While knowing how to read is important, there is also the possibility that other writing styles can actually get in the way of a writer’s own voice. For me, the fact that I am not an avid reader may be the reason why I feel very confident about my own writing style. I own my own voice, and can honestly say that nothing in my voice is borrowed from another writer. To that end, when comparisons are made in the future, I want critics to say, “his/her writing style is reminiscent of C. Alease.”
5. What process do you go through as a writer? Research? What time do you write? Do you need a private space to write, or you can write anywhere at any time? I definitely do my research. College writing taught me the importance of that. I also go through processes. I think. I am in my car, and I think of something, so I try to remember what I was thinking if it is funny, or in some way relates to one or more of my characters. I listen. Just the other day, my mother said something to me that I thought would be excellent for a character. I wrote it down while we waited for our lunch to be brought to us. I find that weekends are good for writing, but when the inspiration comes, it can come at virtually any time, and I have to be ready, so I keep a pad and pen ready.
6. What defines your target audience? My target audience is anyone between the ages of 18 and 9999; people who can relate to life experiences of others and draw from them something about themselves. That makes the audience very large and diverse.
7. Do you think book trailers are beneficial for authors? Explain. Absolutely! This is the 21st century, the digital age! A book trailer is the picture that is worth a thousand words. Book trailers can create the raw emotion that will draw the reader into the story.
8. How much work do you put in book trailers or explain the process of creating a book trailer? Is there a layout? Plan? I try to keep it simple; make the point and then sell the reader on the concept. I storyboard in my head and then work it out digitally. There is no concrete plan when I begin. I say a prayer to my Father for inspiration and let it flow.
9. Are you marketing and promoting your book? Only focusing on other writing projects? I do have portions of another book that I am working on, but I am marketing and promoting the Gatekeeper on my own. I created a budget and am sticking to it.
10. Reviews? Do you think this is important to market your book(s)? Reviews are very, very important. Reviews give other readers a glimpse into whether the book is worth spending money on, and whether the book will be an interesting read. Reviews are also a great way to gauge audience reaction, for good or not. Constructive feedback is a good thing.

Get Your Books in the Bookstore and More

Get your books in Bookstores and More:

There are authors, who are self-published, independent, or traditional published are eager to see their books in the bookstores and mega stores such as Wal-Mart. Some will search the answers to place their books in local bookstores, contact the book owners via phone, in person, and/or email to see how they can get their book shelved in their stores. Others will rely on the traditional publishers to do all the legwork for marketing, distribution, and housing their books in the bookstores locally and/or globally.

We have to establish their budgetary parameters. This is where most book stores have consignments for authors to sign. They are considered about their budgets and other expenses to shelf your book. Most consignments are 60/40, meaning that the author receives only 60% of book sales and the seller receives 40% of the book sales. There are some who will only ask for 20% and the author will receive 80%. Therefore, you are offering a cut of the sales to the bookseller or bookstore owner to carry your books that you supply. You will sign one-sheet paperwork to agree to these terms. If you sell all your copies, they will contact you directly to get more books from you based on supply-demand. You are responsible to pick up your books that did not sell. You will receive a copy of the terms. Most of these local books stores are willing to take in local authors books.

However, some authors prefer to sell their books on their own for 100% of sales. What happens to availability for customers to get your books? It is best to have your books available at other venues, vendors, and online retailers. Most people are looking at online retailers such as Amazon that takes 60-70% of royalties (or book sales percentage as the author receives the remaining amount). For example, if a book costs $15.00, then Amazon or some book retailers will get $9.00 and the author will receive $6.00. You have to take in value the costs of the books you bought too. Some self-published authors will be charged as much as $10.00 per copy of retail priced book of $15.00. You are discounted at 20-60% off the retail price. Exception of Amazon and online retailers, in owned or small book store businesses, they will hold your book at least six months to two years and will return to you if you do not sell a copy within this time span.

We also can make deals with book marketers, who will promote and sell your books. They normally will charge a monthly or yearly fee to promote your books. Are you comfortable with paying upfront costs and then selling them discounted books? Do your homework and research by checking BBB (Better Business Bureau), how long have they been in business, what type of business, and how they will benefit you. I have seen Black Shopping Network and other online marketers to sell your product and books. Are you willing to pay the cost to be the boss? What is your benefit? Is it primarily for book sales or for your potential buyers to have other resources to buy your products such as your books?

Be careful of scams, because you want your dream to be a reality. If it sounds too good to be true, it is not good. If they charge you annual fees, and want to buy your books at 60% off, and will only send you a payment after the books are mailed to them, who wins here? It is not guaranteed you will receive a check after mailing the books to them, which you are also responsible for shipping and handling. Is it worth the 40% of your book retail prices, and not guaranteed your check in the mail after shipping books to a business or person that just started an outlet to help authors (as they say).

We have to develop a clear vision, which is our mission statement. We need a clear idea or statement of your budgeting or marketing goals. You have to define your niche within a competitive marketplace, or your target audience and population that you are catering your book(s) to. More importantly, you have to define your market and who your potential buyers are. You have to set a guideline, time line, or commitment to your goals. In addition, most traditional publishers will allow the author to get 40-60% discounted from the retail price to have their book available for customer sells, book events, and seminars/conferences.

Credits: Amazon, Wal-Mart, Cultural Connection, Reader's Choice, Woodland Book Store, and Author's insight and perspective when working with these businesses to sell books.

New Review: Joy E. Turner

Content...Right Where I Am

There are so many people that are goal-driven, but not purpose-driven. We strategically and effectively plan our days to tailor to our own selfish needs and wants.

In Joy E. Turner's book, Content...Right Where I Am, gives enriching stories and real-life experiences to see how we can be content where we are. However, we should not be content with who we are, until we uncover what God's will is for our lives. Moreover, we have the right to be content or discontent with our current circumstances, or to take the responsibility to pray (or call on God) to God to see our situation change.

Joy explains the meaning of "faith." Her terminology of faith is beyond measure, where she gives an equation of faith equates to belief (trust in God) and add action (our obedience). Then, she tells us the acronym of JOY, is Jesus--Others--You. Her lovely name meaning these things, is the order of things, we are to abide in God's perfect plan to discover contentment. This is a must-read when you are not content in your situation right now!

New Dream 4 More Review

Julia Royston: How Hot is Your Live Life? Return to Your First Love.

Julia Royston writes a devotional book to dedicate our love and time back to God, who is our first love. She delivers a well-thoughtful project since it has a topic heading in relation to God's Word, Scriptures, content on this topic, and song with an ending prayer. She also uses parables, analogies, and metaphors to engage the audience in her ultimate message--able to see it as God does. This is not your typical devotional book since it adds a song in reference to the chapter (topic heading). Since she is a singer, songwriter, and also motivational speaker, she knew how to intertwine songs with a message of God in the daily devotions to our Heavenly Father.

Are You Ready?

God is working something good in you! Let it shine for the world to see. Are you ready for what God has to offer? Are you still sitting around, waiting for God to bring and deliver your blessings directly to you? Faith is dead without works...are you doing what God has put in your spirit. We can believe and trust, but sitting around does nothing if we are not putting effort in the purpose God put in you.

My spiritual coach, Jaime Rohadfox, wrote a e-book called "You Need A Coach, Not A Couch." You can find out more details at her site: www.jaimerohadfox.com

I am also doing what God has put in my spirit. To go out on faith and start a literary consulting firm for new and aspiring authors called Dream 4 More Literary Consulting Firm (March 2009) and co-hosting a new showcase at www.blogtalkradio.com/Dream4More starting in November 2009. I am also writing books that God has birthed in me, and some of my fiction projects are on hold, to write nonfiction.

The Day Begins with Christ
Desire At Will (December 2009)
Unleashing the Spirit
God is in the Equation (working on it now)
Counsel Me Lord to be a Vessel For Christ (working on soon)
The Fruits of My Labor (with co-authors in the future)
Inspirational Fiction Series: Miss the Mark

Now, I am back into an inspirational play called "Are you Ready?" to get back into my acting and memorizing lines! What are you doing that God has placed in your spirit? Are you Ready for what God has called you to do?

Living Your Dream Now

What are you waiting on before you start living your dream? You keep saying, as soon as I finish school I’m going to go after my dream. As soon as I raise the kids, I’m going to pursue my dreams. As soon as I retire, I'm going to live my dreams. As soon as I get rid of this no good spouse, I’m going to start living my dream. As soon as I clean up my act, I am going to start living my dream. You know what I say about all of that? I say, it’s not enough. There is no excuse for any of us living and breathing on this earth to put off pursing, chasing down, running down, the dreams that God Himself has placed in our hearts.
So what if things aren’t going well right now?

So what if they saw we’re in a recession. God’s word says, "If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm; though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand. He continues by saying, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread (Psalm 35:23-25 NIV).” Oh my goodness, how much more plain can God be?

What will it take for you to grasp hold to the fact that God will take care of you. God wants to see His people succeed. God wants us not to just survive in this life, but He wants us to thrive! God says it plainly again in Jeremiah 29 chapter and verse 11, “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. He wants you and me to have a great future! He wants us to prosper. He wants us to know that we have hope and a future. That’s what God desires for His people. Therefore, we have no excuse. I don’t care how many hours you work on your job; or how many times you run into something that tries to block your way toward moving forward with the dreams He’s placed within you. God is the one who we must rely on if we expect to live our dreams now. God is the only one who can bring our dreams to pass. God is! He is all in all.

I dare you to step out on faith and live your dreams now. If you place your trust and faith in God, I guarantee you that He will make room for your gift. I guarantee you that God will open doors for you that no man can close. He will close doors for you that no man can open. The God I serve, right now, right this very moment, is behind closed doors working things out on my behalf. He loves me and He loves you. Don’t start talking about things like, ‘but you don’t know how bad I’ve messed up’. Lay that mess aside, all those excuses that the enemy cooks up in your mind. Remember that God’s love is unconditional. God’s forgiveness, grace and mercy never run out. There is not one thing; nothing that can separate me and you from the love of God.

Go forward, step out and trust God. He knows the desires of your hearts. He just wants you to lean on Him and put Him to the test. I am a living, breathing testimony that He will do what He says and so much more.
